JTEKT’s 2013 Anti-Counterfeiting Campaigns Focused on China

2014-02-06 20:20:27

There is a large financial and safety risk in the use of counterfeit bearings.  Due to these risks, JTEKT is aggressively engaged in measures for intercepting counterfeit goods before they enter the marketplace.  JTEKT has worked with customs bureaus, local search companies, and law firms with the support of the World Bearing Association in the full-scale combating of counterfeiters. This has resulted in the confiscation of over 40,000 sets of counterfeit bearings during the six month period from January to June 2013.

JTEKT has found that China is the main source of counterfeit Koyo brand bearings. Counterfeit luxury consumer items like watches, purses, and even wine, were the initial target for Chinese counterfeiters. Increasingly, ever more sophisticated fakes are discovered. JTEKT Corporation found this during a recent raid where Koyo brand bearings were being copied along with copied Koyo Steering System Components.

China has long been the main source for imitation counterfeit Koyo Bearings but JTEKT had never seen their steering components being duplicated before this recent raid. A Chinese search company provided notification of the counterfeit steering components with Koyo brand marks which were manufactured in Zhejiang Province, China. As a result of a government investigation, it was determined that the counterfeiters were using the logo of one of JTEKT’s Chinese subsidiaries as the manufacturer.

In addition to the WBA stopfakebearings campaign JTEKT has created and distributed their own poster warning customers of the dangers of counterfeit products and some tips how to identify such products.
